OHSU Give Day is over, but you can still make a gift!
Doernbecher Children's Hospital

“What we went through changed our lives and left a permanent mark. We’re so grateful to the doctors at OHSU Doernbecher who helped us through it.”

-- Francisco Sanchez-Cacatzum, OHSU Doernbecher parent of Frank, pictured above

Your gift of $10 or more to the Pediatric Social Work Family Support Fund will be DOUBLED to help Doernbecher families when they need it most—up to $50,000—to meet basic needs and maintain well-being during long hospital stays and the hardest days during a time of crisis. Generously provided by David and Rose Friedlund.

Since the Pediatric Social Work Family Support Fund was created, 164 families have received support. Thanks to gifts to this fund, the Doernbecher social work team can provide families with items essential to their basic health needs, such as food and gas gift cards, clothing for children in a variety of sizes, formula, medication, breast pumps, air purifiers, baby bathtubs, and diabetic supplies.

These families are often at the hospital for many hours to attend multiple appointments, which is very draining during an incredibly stressful time.

The Pediatric Family Support Fund helps kids and families when their need is greatest, including:

  • Hotel stay for a family with a baby in the NICU when other alternatives were not available
  • Necessary medical supplies and medications
  • Groceries for a family that had recently had a house fire
  • Formula for a new baby when other support was delayed
  • Financial support for technical resources so a family from a rural area could access telehealth for their child
  • Baby supplies for a new foster mother with limited resources
  • Noise cancelling headphones for a five-year-old with sensory issues
  • A rental breast pump for a new mother
  • Support for food for a father who had recently been laid off, and whose child was admitted for a prolonged hospitalization
  • Diabetic supplies for a parent far from home because of her child’s unexpected hospitalization
  • A hotel for a family in a rural area whose child was medically complex and whose power had been out for days

Oregon's #1 children's hospital

Ask the families who have benefitted from the life-saving care at OHSU Doernbecher Children's Hospital, and they’ll be the first to tell you: Doernbecher is a place like no other. U.S. News and World Report agrees, ranking Doernbecher among the best children’s hospitals in the nation. Here’s what else sets Doernbecher apart:

  • The region’s ONLY National Cancer Institute Designated Cancer Center for Phase 1 clinical trials of pediatric cancer patients
  • Oregon’s ONLY provider of bone marrow transplants for children
  • The most comprehensive fetal therapy program between San Francisco and Seattle
  • Oregon’s ONLY pediatric kidney transplant service
  • The #1 referral center for cleft palates and craniofacial problems in Oregon
  • FIRST dedicated children’s hospital to install an intraoperative (“in surgery”) MRI suite
  • Home to the state’s ONLY dedicated center for the treatment of cystic fibrosis

OHSU Doernbecher Children’s Hospital plays a vital role in the region, offering care and expertise that can’t be found at most local hospitals. It’s the kind of resource that can make a life-or-death difference for the region’s youngest residents.

The children who rely on Doernbecher also rely on you—because none of this is possible without generous donor support.
